I’ve noticed over time that i tend to like things which are overtly and unapologetically stupid. i’m not talking guilty pleasures and pop hits, i’m talking awkward jams from artists, both brilliant and not, that are too strange to expect public tolerance from. inane sensibilities applied to tracks that are repetitive and aloof. i dont *necessarily* seek to annoy with this show, more like put these loved little oddballs together and see what the results are when compacted into one hour. whatever it is i hope it’s interesting.

Halloween, i think we can agree, is a goofball thing overall, but it’s still fun. What’s also fun is getting into the spirit of things by indulging the creepy and unsettling side. Have you ever wanted to find a way to genuinely scare someone on this day? Same as movies, i’m also interested in how music can do this. Weird atmosphere punctured by disorienting noise, dread, silence, and repulsion. We’ve got the obvious and the not-so-obvious ideas running about here, no doubt a few of them by artists who’d be offended at how their subtlety became fodder for such a common idea, but an idea is an idea, and here we are. this is what i’d play for the visitors tonight if my girlfriend wouldn’t get scared or disgusted herself. and to think: the podcast is in her name. enjoy!

I was going to finally punch in an episode i’d been fiddling with on and off for about three weeks, then decided yesterday that it either wasnt ready or that I wasnt feeling it. I hastily cobbled an emergency backup to see if I could do anything this week, and this strange thing came out. I say strange because it’s.. not. cohesive indie show? sure why not. a couple of familiar names, but a lot of fresh 2009 ideas flying around: Part Chimp from Mogwai’s label, Florence’s terrifically layered debut, and David Sylvian’s left field minimalism. plus a new one from Geoff Barrow’s side project Beak>.
